South Africa April/May 2014 itinerary

On the 9th April I left home at 16:00 with my friend, Peter driving me to Heathrow. I flew out with Virgin Atlantic at 21:00 arriving at Oliver Thambo airport at 09:05 which is the principal international airport of South Africa and situated north of Johannesburg After retrieving my luggage and buying a sim card I boarded a Lowveld link bus at 13:30 arriving in White River at 17:30 which was earlier than expected. It was in total a long journey indeed of some 24 hours. South Africa is an hour ahead of British standard time. My sister picked me up from the bus stop and after my first African night at her home we set off the following day to Ingwelala. Ingwelala translates from Zulu as 'the sleeping leopard' or similar. On Monday 14th April, leaving at 15:10 I took a domestic flight with SAA Airlink from Nelspruit to Durban. My sons, Darrel (the eldest) and Warren met me at the King Chaka airport at 16:10 holding a sign saying 'Sawubona' which is a Zulu greeting meaning 'Hello' and took me to Amanzimtoti where I have lived for many years and took me to the home of Warren and his wife, Chane's home. At last I had the privilege of holding my granddaughter, Emily Grace, now already 18 months old, in my arms. On Thursday my eldest son, Darrel fetched me and after going to his home in Hillcrest we went to a Tenebrae service. On Good Friday Warren with Emily fetched us and we set off to Howick where I stayed at 40 Frazer street Bed and Breakfast of which I did a Trip Advisor review and spent Easter with my aging parents (86 and 90). My eldest sister, Corien was also there for the weekend. On Easter Monday Darrel fetched me and took me to my friends Barry and Jenny's home. I treating us all with a weekend at Mkuze game reserve. Mkuze is a favourite of mine and elephant and lion have recently been released. For our stay here I also did Trip Advisor review . I next spent a few days with Rob and Lynne Jack who took me to Tala Private game reserve for which I also did a Trip Advisor review. All good holidays soon come to an end so I flew with Mango back to Johannesburg and then at 20:10 back to Heathrow arriving the following morning at 06:35 where took a 724 bus to St. Albans where my good friend Peter fetched me from the station.

April/May is the best time of the year for me in South Africa as the weather then was similar to that of the British summer so although I will missed the early British summer with its array of lovely flowers I will had the blessing of being able to experience the South African autumn with their golden sunshine. I give thanks and praise to my Father in Heaven for a safe enjoyable trip and helping me save up for this trip and making it possible and His constant financial provision. I last saw my family in December 2011.
